Ever since I can remember I've watched and helped my mum create garments and outfits on our living room floor! Metres of fabric stretched along the floor, pins, patterns and thread. As a child, I spent time watching, learning, threading the machine and holding the pin cushion! My talented mentor supported me through making my first garment for the lady next door - flowery shift dress. I went on to make myself a few dresses and skirts. I definitely had the urge to make more outfits; learning new techniques and perfected sewing basics.

As I grew older I watched and supported mum as she created countless beautiful dresses including bridal dresses and evening wear.

When I moved out of home at 23, my parents bought me my first sewing machine! It certainly gathered dust for while; giving my teaching career chance to develop. I married my husband Rob and had my first beautiful twirlie, Scarlett. I then tried my hand at various girlie frocks, headbands and other garments. Along came twirl number 2 Evelyn, the sewing continued. Along came twirlie number 3, Elsie.

In 2014 My brother got married in the Ivory Coast. African tradition was that the wedding congregation wore an outfit using fabric that the brides family supplied. The cogs started whirring and mum and I set to creating suitable, elegant and chic dresses and accessories. My machine has never been put away since. I started collecting vintage sewing patterns and combined these with my own ideas to create garments that I wear today.

My 3 Twirlies are my inspiration for sewing, as well as the massive buzz of excitement I have in seeing people wear my clothes. I feel passionate about the enjoyment my creations bring to others. The Third Twirl is open for business!
